It has been a while since I have kept tabs on things so I am sort of out of the loop.

Anyways I finally am getting my fishroom setup. I have the room setup/racks made and slowly will be putting in the tanks.

At this point I am planning on using central systems for ~360 gallons per setup. I was thinking about using Ultima II or Bio Wave 1200 filters with a 2 sock filters plumbed in parallel before the big filter.

I am at a loss on what the best sock filters and pumps would be. Any advice would be appreciated.

For sock filters I want filter to be reasonably priced, but key will be easy of swapping out without making a mess.

For a pump I need one that would give the ~3000-4000 gph but keys selling points are noise level (lower better...) electricity, and reliability.

All of this plumbing will be going to a back room, so hopefully I can keep the noise level down, but in the long run I will be expecting to have ~5 setups... So Noise and upkeep cost will be a big concern.

Anyways any advice on what the best known pumps and sock filters are would be appreciated.

I use the 100-200 micron, 4" X 8" filter socks (bags)from jehmco, they run less than $5 each, I find if I get anything smaller than 100 micron, they plug up too fast.
I have mostly medium to large cichlids which means there is always going to be a fair amount of constantly suspended particulate, so a regular maintenance schedule of rinsing the socks is part of the game.
I also find using the 15" socks, it take a little longer to plug them up.
And just recently started using Laguna pumps, about a year ago, I find them to be very quiet, yet reasonably priced.

Order bulk filter socks from Carr Mc Master get the largest ones you can. I really like the 32inch long socks 7inches round. 100 microns work great for a heavy load. Question- If you have an ultima filter why are you going to have filter socks when that filter will remove particular matter out of the water very well.

+1 on the McMaster Carr socks. Cheap and effective.

As far as pumps, I'm still a huge fan of Reeflo pumps. A Reeflo Dart would get your right in the area you are looking for.

I was fairly certain the Ultima filters were mostly media filtration. Sure solids can be trapped in the media bed, but I am likely going to want a better media filter.
