I was at an LFS last week and saw this pump in the back corner, inquired about it and the owner told me it was broken. He didn't know any details other than: "so and so" really "bleeped" that pump up".. I asked for it free and he gave it to me. I took it apart the electric motor works and spins freely when turned on, the outer casing with the magnet/impeller inside spin freely. I really don't want to re-plumb my sump just to test it out.

1) What else could be wrong with it?
2) Anyone know of common issues with these pumps?
3) If you need pics please be specific on what part to photograph.

Figure out a way to adapt it to a couple pieces of hose, prime it, stick inflow hose in a bucket, and plug it in. You might want to do it in outside...

You could test it using the bathtub, but my wife doesn't care for me testing filters in the tub. :grinno:

This pump isn't submersible so I don't think I can run it in the tub. I'll try and get some hoses on it though and see. I am wondering if it's just not able to operate with head pressure?

Hang on a sec and I'll try.

Hey justin i have two of the mak 5's i believe the tephlon impeller has a keeper pin if your shaft turns when plugged in and you get no pressure i would check the keeper pin...

That was a good score last week huh! :grinno:

I got those 3 big Elephant nose's cheap and you got that free pump. :headbang2

Let us know how it turns out.

Sup bro. I am a little lost on the keeper pin. I didn't see one. Maybe that's the issue?

Justin. it might not be broken. people have given me a few pumps that they thought were broken too. the back of the pump just needs a little help to start spinning once its plugged in. the motor of the pump doesn't have enough torque to get it going. this happens when pumps are suddenly unplugged and left to sit for a while.

i just use a pen or pencil, stick it through the fan-guard-cover-thing and give it a manual spin. it has worked every time for me. i hope this helps bro.

Thanks for the advice Kee, I'll do that. I will know for sure this week if it doesn't work with head pressure. I am using it on a sump I am working out right now, the one we spoke about last night.
