i have a very small bichir that needs a tank to him self till he grows a bit or else he will probably be eaten :(
I have a 10 gal at home (im @ school a few hours away from home) and need to know the quickest way to cycle a tank...is there any way i could take him home and toss him in a tank friday or will i have to bring the tank back and cycle it for a week or so then put him in?
thanks for the help

Use tank water, decor, filter, gravel from another tank and fresh water, and do a small water change everyday hor him or use all fresh stuff and buy bio-spira... Or, if you wanna chance it, hope he is tough enough and throw him in the uncycled tank and do water changes everyday... There are several options, but it depends on how you want to do it.

thanks, would you suggest doing this, or just hope he doesnt get eaten?

Depends on how much you like him... The legit thing to do would be move him... But if your not worried of losing him, then leave him.. Only you can make the decision.

i like but i would rather him have a quick death (eaten) than die slowly from uncycled tank...so i dunno.
help!?! :nilly: lol

They wont die from a uncycled tank, usually... If you provide the small tank will good filtration and put any kind of bacteria in it from your other tank, and do water changes he will be fine..

option 1) divide the tank he is in while the 10 gal cycles.

option 2) if you use gravel from the existing tank, and media from the existing tank in the 10 gal tank than you are ok to just start the 10 and put him in.

oh ok, well i guess ill try it then...thanks!

Take established media from another tank-
Place established filter from another tank on the new tank.
Syphon water from old tank and place into new tank-
Mixt roughly 20% freshwater from tap that has been treated with old tank water.
Bio-Spera is your friend as well-

Should be fine-But could test water params and go from their-You should beable to get the new guy into the new tank with in a matter of hours

ok great, thanks for all the advice!
