i had to buy a ropefish today because it was almost bought but the lfs owner was saving it for me. it is not gettin along with my oscars at all and i am cycling a new tank. what can i do if i put in in the cycling tank to keep it safe? just do like 25% water changes every day? if i leave it in there any longer i fear for its life. HELP!

lolz do u have a tank sepearater. I think rope fish are pretty low maintance. u should be able to put it in ur cycled tank. so ya lolz rope fish arent that rare so dnt fret. :D lolz

Do not put in it a tank that's not cycle yet... how big are the Oscar? if u have another tank that is cycle u could put the rope fish in it...

he said it not cycle.... :grinno:

if you have to wait for the tank to cycle can you get out ad buy some pvc tubing? the stuff that floats? your ropefish should use it to hide in and be able to take air from the surface without getting hit from the oscars???????????

if u have a spare filter add it to the oscar tank and add some media form the original filter wait 3 days then move the added filter to the uncycled tank.

I'd put it in the uncycled tank (if you're dosing with ammonia do a 90% water change and dose with Prime). Squeeze some crud from your filter on the Oscar tank in to the uncycled tank, and dose with Seachem Stability as directed on the label. Monitor water every day, and do a water change if levels become too high.

ok thanks guys! i already used almost all the rocks from the oscar tank in the new tank and some of the filter media also to jumpstart the process. i also warmed the water to like 85 to let the bacteria reproduce faster so i am doing all in my power that i can i just really dont want the little guy to die. i have had 2 and they did fine before but while they may not be rare for you guys, they never come around here. i had to special order my 2nd one and the first one was a random one at petco. what would be an absolute minimum for me to wait to put the ropefish in the new tank if i already did the filter media and new rocks? i did a small water change and used nutrafin cycle(all the lfs had) to try to help.
