this has probably been posted 10000 times but my tanks has a dirty look to it... the water looks like a rusty brownishgreenish color.. fish look healthy... did a 50% water change a few dif. times.. no help.. the guy at the local pet store got me to buy some junk to poor in to "clear it up"... that hasnt worked... im starting to think its my filter.. causeing the color.. im going to the pet store tomarrow and planning to just get a whole new filter bc the one i am using is pretty old.. and was going to update it soon anyway... do u think that this is whats causing this?...

i use to think it had something to do with the black gravelstone because it looks really dirty to.. i vaccum it and see all the cr#p come up and out.. so i was thinking maybe changing it to a lighter color and putting a background on my tank thats blue.. :( im getting really discouraged... :nilly:

tank has been running for a few months ... this problem just recently has been getting bad..

it could very well be the filter. it shouldnt really be the gravel if you rinsed it before you put it in. although i think some of the black gravel is painted and it could flake off...but i think your problem sounds like an algae bloom. i would go ahead and buy a new filter and just give it time. i had that problem and it cleared up over time. i think mine took about two weeks to clear. good luck. -jordan

Buy algae destroyer advanced frm API. Best thing since sliced bread.

It could be driftwood, if you have any in there. I've gone through that a few times with my malaysian bogwood. My tank looks like tea for a while and then it eventually stops. Depending on how much driftwood you have it could be a quick fix or a lengthy one...just keep up with the water changes.

I put a new centerpiece in my 150 and it turned the whole thing into tea for about 3 weeks now. It's going away after the third water change.

I agree with the drift wood idea. in my 20 long i have tons of driftwood, and it gives the tanka dirty look. if you boil the drift wood for like 15 minutes, or let it sit outside in a large tub of water in the summer for a few days, switching the water out everyday or so, it will help. after a while the yellowish bleed off, will be gone from the driftwood, almost entirerly.
