Ive heard horror stories of heaters tankin' on folks. Would like to try this heater in-line of my XP4. Any ideas?? I also would like a trusty submersible for my AC110's filtered tank. I read the thread on heater review and it never touched on the specific one in which I am asking.

if you have a heater you like and it's been working good, you can make a DIY inline heater module :)

Is there a thread?

I use 2 of the Hydor 300 watt on my 120g. One for each canister. The temp is always steady and I never have any fluctuations.

I have gained some room in the tank by not having the traditional glass tube heater, my fish are safer (esp. when you have a bruiser, like my Midas) and it gives a more natural appearance.

I will never go back to an in tank heater. Even if I go to a bigger tank and can not use the Hydor in line heater, I would either build my own in line or use a Lifegard Aquatics Heater module.

Jcardona..awesome idea.

Umm... I think credit should go where it's due. This was first posted by Snazzy in 2006 on the Planted Tank forums:

Incidentally, at the start of his post he writes: "Please do not post this anywhere else without my permission!" Jcardona - did you ask before posting his tutorial here?

We4weiners - the Hydor ETH heaters are generally very well reviewed. I've had good experiences with the 300 and 200. The 201 appears to be a new model and I'm not sure what distinguishes it from the 200.

I believe it may be the diameters...1/2 vs 5/8"
