I need a small HOB (about 4" wide) that would fit over a large tank frame. I tried an Aquaclear 50; perfect size, but the part that sits on top of the frame was only about 1/2" wide.

Is there a small HOB that has an adjustable (or multiple) slot that would fit over a ~ 1" plastic frame?

If it's a "larger" tank ie...125 / 150 gal and you insist on hob's go either emp 400 or ac 110:D :headbang2

A Penguine 150 will fit. It has a bio-wheel too. I can sense the tension on the forum, everyone hoping that this isn't the only filtration for the tank.

What else ya got?

CHOMPERS,
I have a sponge filter too.....

Actually I have an XP3 & XP4 running primarily for bio-filtration. The weekly gravel vacuum is my mechanical filtration.

I want to use a small HOB for a few chemical filtration experiments (trying to lower nitrates - tap water has 30PPMs) without increasing my water change interval or installing an RO system. It's much easier to change out bags of chemical media weekly with a HOB. Plus I don't want to disrupt my BB production in the canisters.

Plants will work. Aquatic plants consume nitrates slowly but terrestrial plants consume them like crazy. Any low light plants will work so you don't have to upgrade your lighting.

Pothos is sold at all nurseries and indoor garden centers as hanging baskets. You can get all you will ever need for three bucks. Just wash the dirt off the roots and dangle them in the tank. You can also age the water with the pothos if you have room for a storage container.

I'm experimenting with some live plants as well. So far my African Cichlids favor the wide reddish leaves...LOL. Big Al's has a ton of a certain kind of pond plant. They look a bit ugly but they may be cichlid proof. I'll see if they are Pothos, and if they are, I might try one. Thanks.
