I require small slate rocks, roughly 4x4 inches for a turtle dock I am building...

Anyone know where I can find these locally? I tried home depot and lowes...

ps, I live in Connecticut! :)

You could try collecting your own a local stream.

Haven't been to Conn. Do you have rock quarries? Go pick'! Do they have like a 'Steins Garden Center'? Maybe a landscaping or gardening company would be your best bet. Good Luck with your turtle project.:D

ok i reviewed some of the slate tiles at lowes and decided they fit the purpose well. Are they safe for aquarium use if I give them a good scrub?

also.. what would be a good method of breaking them into shapes. I require breaks not so much cuts for a more natural look. Still hammer and chisel?

Rock quarry
I build my tanks by "rock diving"
Just get up on those mountains of rocks at your local quarry, pick some beautes and pay per pound. I have landed some really nice stones this way, and you are hand picking so you get whatever size/color/texture you want.

I've done this before and I've gotten some awesome looking rocks, plus when I'm swimming in a lake or something I always end up seeing some huge rock I want and collect that way.
