I went fishing, and there was a big school of lmb very close to the land. So when I was going fishing, since I couldn't feel them, I relied on seeing them. So when I caught them, I immediately took out the hook, didn't yank it or anything. But they died quickly after that...how would I keep them alive?

I also caught a little pumpkinseed with my hand, a string, a hook, and bait.

You should be looking to net small fish instead. Much easier to acclimate to tank life.

My spelling is not bad. But maybe I didn't word it clearly enough, sorry.

Basically, I caught two lmb, about 3" each, and they died about 15 minutes after that. I simply hooked them on the mouth, and immediately removed the hook as safely as I could. What can I do so that if I catch them again, they won't die? I kept them in a large plastic container with their own water. They died before I even got to the car.

first post, haha... Anyway if your in cali its illegal. im not tryin to get you in trouble or anything but im just giving you a heads up if you didnt know.

Welcome, and I think you may be right, Cali has strict laws on natives.

Oxygenate the water, don't let it overheat (even less oxygen then) and change it frequently (don't get it from the edge of the shore go out at least a few feet).

Ok now that I answered your question, check you local and state laws on keeping game fish and size limits (and of course you have your freshwater fishing permit already), we don't condone breaking the law and It will quiet the hordes...:D

doesnt matter if you have a license or not. LMB have to be 12" to keep. otherwise its illegal.

LMB= 12" /5 fish limit
BLuegill/sunfish=no size limit/not sure fish limit
crappie=no size limit
carp=no size limit or bag limit
Trout=no size limit/5 fish limit

ill have to look up the rest.
