What would be more beneficial for me in the long run? Either for me to buy a canister filter specifically a used eheim 2260 (used for $80) or build a sump? What would my price be to build a sump? Btw I have 135 gallon tank tips please!

sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump sump.

if you can get some used glass this would be the cheapest. also with the sump you can stick your heater in there too!

i personally HATE canister filters. the pipes get blocked up so quickly IME. and cleaning an external is not my idea of fun! elbows deep in bacteria and shi!.... no thank you LOL
google fludized bed / k1 kaldness. (almost) maintainance free. the only maintainence i do on mine is pour some of the tank water in the bath (when water changing) pull out the pot scrubbies in their bag and do a bit of walking on them then back they go. filter floss is changed as required!

uh...for that price it would be a mistake not to buy that canister. People sell them used for around 200 all day long. Personally I prefer to use both a sump and a canister. Combo has worked well for me and I don't have to worry if something fails on one because I have the other to keep the tank rolling

Okay I strongly Disagree, I use eheim canisters for 20 years, often running for six months at a time NEVER one clog use the media like ehfisubstrat, bioballs, or matrix w flosss and it will not clog my 150 Marine tank runs w three eheims 2217 and a aquamedic skimmer for three years and never a problem and No sump overflow problems, all the fish including triggers, angels and variuos damsells eat everyday like pigs and only biomedia is used as mentioned.,

Yeah that's what I was considering on doing too but the only down side to me getting the eheim is that he had it running in a salt water tank I know I have to clean out the media but that would just destroy all of the bacteria growing inside. So should I still consider the eheim?

The bacteria will be destroyed anyway if it's unplugged for a few hours.

In the long run, a sump. Eheim is a great product but its a canister today and will be next year too. You can add to, reconfigure, or whatever you want with the sump. Its much more flexible.

I have an Eheim 2250 FULL of effisubstrate pro and no mechanical. Its plumbed via bulkhead from the sump, through the filter, through a UV and back into the sump. The sump has 1600gph going through it and thats the beauty. The canister is rated for a 250g aquarium but only puts out 300gph, max.The way its setup now, I'm filtering 1600gph mechanically and 300gph biologically. My point is, a sump as the main filter in a setup will give the most diversity and flexibility.

If it were me, I would drop the $80 and get that 2260, build a sump and incorporate the two for that 135g.
