so i just inherited a nice 75 gallon with wood stand/canopy. originally it was used as a marine reef tank, but I can't afford that, so it's gotta be fresh water.
it has an overflow box built in with 1 output hole and there's a 20 gallon underneath as a sump tank.
current plans for the tank:
danner return pump 700gph ($64)
300 bio balls ($16)
vinyl piping connecting it all ($?)
lighting - maybe a 75 gallon hood with 2 light ballasts (~$100)
2 fluorescent lights (~$50)?? going for uber bright purple lights
at least 50lbs of pool filter sand ($>50)
nice piece of drift wood (~$50)
thinking about starting off with 3 needle fish ($30) but definitely open to suggestions.
plants ($absolutely no clue) - suggestions?
_______________________
total $$ - prob around $450
what do you guys think about the danner pumps versus the others? i heard they are loud and get very hot
what kind of bioballs do you guys like? i know there are a ton of different ones, so any suggestions?
any idea on the tank hood/lighting part? should i just buy ballasts to balance on top of the tank or is buying a hood worth it underneath the wood canopy?
how about substrate for plants? do i need eco-complete? i was thinking about having a nice log piece of drift wood in center with crap attached to it with big plants around it. i don't want a full planted tank, just lightly planted.
how about attaching the return hose to the tank? what kind of hoses do you guys use? vinyl? pvc?
Any advice would be incredibly appreciated!
Thanks guys.
