My poor severum has either been in a fight or more likly got spooked and run in to the glass as I've seen him do before :(

It's a really nasty injury that happened a couple of days ago, I upped the temp added salt and some anti fungal meds hoping that he'd be ok but ever since he has been looking very ill, he was almost sideways at the top of the tank earlier but now is resting on the bottom, I've seperated him from the rest of the tank with a divider now but I'm very worried about him, is there anything I can do?

One really strange thing last night was that I noticed he had some wierd brown like poo coming out his gills that was obviously attached because it was coming in and out with his breathing, he has also lost his colour...

Yikes. Looks like he was in a fight and had his face ripped off. He needs to be isolated. Treat with anti fungal. Jungle is what I use. Keep water clean, and fast for a week at least, I would fast it for a month.

Yea between his mouth and his torn fins in the back i would say he got into a fight. I agree with big w/ the treatment. Hope he heals fast.

Here is an FH that I had, that had the same thing happen. It might be duck-lips, for which there is no cure that I know of.

There is no other way for the mouths to end up like that except from constant clashing with other tankmates. This is really going to be a permanent damage or scarring. Japtastic, what else do you have in the tank? Get a hospital tank for now and monitor him there. Your main tank harbors bacteria that will make short work of your severum if you do not move it to a tank where you can at least maintain clean water until its injuries heal a bit. As far as the anti fungal meds, most of the fungal infections are not true fungal infections but bacterial infections. I'd focus on getting Pimafix and Melafix right now and keep antibiotics in the cabinet just in hand. If possible, get Maracyn and Maracyn 2 but do not use them for now.

Thanks for all your input chaps but he lost the fight last night :( Absolutely gutted that this happened and happened so quick, he was a beautiful specimen, 3 days ago he was fine now he's dead :( :(

BTW most of the fin damage occurred after the mouth injury, fish stock is in the sig, generally not much fighting apart from the odd gill flaring and very minor nipped fins.
