So in the witer my garge gets like in the 40 Fs. Will it still be fine if i have the heater?

Well the tank im getting you can put a real Stock tank heater in the is in the bottom. So with that it keeps the water at about 40*F. so with that will the channel cats be good?

sorry for following all your threads, but i am just trying to help. channel cats get an excess of 2-3 feet and if kept right can get even bigger. you could keep a channel cat in a 250 stock tank given the dimensions allow the fish some space to turn and swim freely. so i suggest stay away from the big cats/fish in general. stick with a small (55 gallon or 75 gallon) community tank that way your not jumping into something you can't quite recover from.

thats just my 2 cents, but i think the heater would work fine if you hid it good enough under substrate or something because if you got a bottom dweller they would be in high risk of being burned if the heater was on the bottom of the tank.

1. A tank like you are describing will MAYBE hold 1 cat, no more than that.
2. Filtration? You need to keep as much as possible out of the tank and will need massive filtration.
3. That heater would work, but you are better off with two or more so they work less and if one dies the other will keep going.
4. 40 degrees and a open pond will require tons of heat. You really want to consider insulating under and all around the tank and some type of insulated cover to help retain the heat.

Here's my pond build...I'm using two 300 watt heaters in the sump. Air temp in my basement right now is 55-60F and the water is a nice steady 80 degrees.

Hope this helped. Any questions...just ask away :)

Ok thank you. Well heres my last words here.... I want to setup a large enough tank to get fair sized cats. The garage is Fairly cold right now. I want some sort of fish that will live in cold water Maybe 30-40 degree water. and something that doesn't get to big. I was going to build something like all the sumps or whatever they are called with all the sponges in them for filteration. Then today i was thinking large mouth or small mouth bass or trout. But come to find out that here all three are game fish and cant be kept.

actually, game fish here are allowed to be kept, but releasing a fish you caught wild but kept in a home aquarium is prohibited, you are allowed to keep a fish if you caught it, granted a bass or trout may be illegal as bass are imported and trout are on the brink, but regardless, get a 75 gallon fish tank, get some small yellow bullheads, and then you can keep sunfish, maybe brookies, and other cold water native fish. bullheads are a great choice if you are not looking for something to big, but still want something that has the characteristics of a channel cat (except for the lazy-ness, bullheads are not as active)

I just want some bass or walleye even.
