Needs some advise

Problem: Food particles always floating in tank

Tank setup: I have a 150 gallon with two FX5's with prefilter media in the top trays biomax in the middle bottom empty. I use to have the blue pads in the bottom but got tired of having to clean then once a week and haven't got around to getting more biomax for the bottom trays.

Substrate: playsand

Stats ammonia 0, nitirites 0, nitrates below 40.
Water changes 30% or more once a week sometimes twice.

Feeding: pellets, fillets, bloodworms, shrimp, veggie flakes, usually two of these once a day

Fish are happy and health but I'm not sick of seing floaties all the time.

Now what could I do to stop this id like not to have to open my FX5's once a week to clean pads that's a PITA.

I was thinking powerheads but afraid it will blow the sand around two much.

Also I have changes the stock outake attachements to 90 degree elbows giving me a strong flow.

Thanks

It really sounds like your filtration is more than enough for your tank. Water is good and I doubt changing anything inside the fx5's will do much but you might try adding some sort of mech on the bottom.

It sounds like the flow is keeping alot of small particles from getting to the filter intakes. If it were me, I'd try to change the output flow from the canisters. Sometimes when I change the level or direction of my outputs even slightly I notice alot of floaties in my tank. I turn the nozzle a half inch one direction or the other and I don't get as much floating debris. Worth a try

Thanks for the advise right now I have them pointing straight at the glass which does create a pretty good current there and very will could be stopping the particles from getting to the intakes. Ill try adjusting them and see if that works and if not ill try putting the orginal attachments back on. If neither one of those work I could try swapping were my intakes and outtakes are. Thanks again for your reply.

If need be I guess I could put the blue pads back in but having to pull the filters out from under the tank once a week to clean the pads is a PITA.
