Hi Guys,
I'm not from around these parts, I've never kept Angelfish, but I've seen some "Green Angels" (which I'm assuming are quite like the wild-type angels, they had much shorter fins than some of the ornate varieties I've looked at).

Now, I'd like to try and keep a couple of these Green Angels in a setup with my Red Eared Slider, but being not so familiar with Angelfish, I need some of you experts to chime in here...

- How quick are Angelfish when they need to be? The tank already has a few smaller barb-type fish in it, and for the most part the turtle leaves them alone, but I won't risk Angels in there if they're not quick on their fins.

- Are Angelfish jumpers? The tank doesn't have a lit because of the need for a basking area for the slider, so obviously if they're big on the high jump then I won't look any further into them :)

Best,
Paul

I'm no expert and what's a lit?

I'm very unfamiliar with British slang.

sorry, i am not an angel expert, but kept a few before. Anyway, red ear turtle gets big and carry diseases. How big is the tank? you may need room for them to grow. Angels can be really quick but disadventage is long fins.

Okay, thanks guys. The Slider's been with me for 14 years, and I've been slowly trying to create an ecosystem in the setup with inverts and small fast fish, I just thought I'd ask around about the green angels first and so far they don't seem like a good match for the tank.

Best,
Paul

my experience with fish and turtle is mix that they RARELY work out. thats just nature. my baby turtle (forgot what it was wasnt a slider) took a bit at my arowana who at the time was 3 time his size. move him in with my convict and the convict killed it.

i never recommend turtle and fish mix even thought its awesome i just dont think it can work

I am no expert but have had angels for over 7 years.

I would not mix them with a turtle for fear of them being eaten. I would not mix them with barbs for fear of fin nipping.

You could try some other smaller cichlids like convicts and provide some hiding holes too deep for the turtle to get in.
