I have a red finned cigar shark (aka mad barb) and the lower edge of his tail fin is kind of erroding away and black around it. I can't find anything that has this as a symptom. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this might could be?

Is it fin rot? I wouldn't normally suggest that with "black" edging instead of white. Are there any other symptoms? Is the fish eating? Is he getting beat up? Have you checked the water quality?

If you want to, you can buy some Potassium Permanganate (Lowes carries it as pool-filter cleaner). Make it into a paste and spread it onto fin (wear gloves, PP is a carcinogen). This will KILL all pathogens on it (Could also use hydrogen peroxide).

I use this method for treating my koi, however it's very harsh; but will kill all pathogens.

Good luck and keep us updated. :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

You can also use: Maroxy, Maracyn, Fungus Clear, etc....

Just add those products directly to water (use hospital tank if possible).

Thanks for the help! hopefully I can get the fish back in tip top shape so I can put him in my new 75 gallon tank. Also, I tested for ammonia and it was at 0ppm and I just tested the ph and its at 6.6 Should I try raising the ph level?

6.6 is acidic. I'm guessing from your signature, that your only fish is the shark. If it's been living in your current water for a good length of time without any problems, you should be fine.

Keep us posted!!! :headbang2:headbang2

I have an electric blue crayfish in there as well. Amd the fish has been in the tank for awhile. I think i've had him for about 6-7 years now. So, do you think it would be wise to try to raise the ph level?
