i am finally ready to move my GSP to full marine. I have the AquaC remora and 2 powerheads all that is needed is LR which i am picking up cured and ready LR from LFS (that they have in one of their tanks already) next saturday. So i have one problem though.....When i first set up my tank i used a gravel substrate. I am gonna switch over to sand once i switch to SW but have a few concerns. First when i switch to sand i know it will bring my ph up so since mine has been around 7.2 will this cause major stress??? and second i have no other tank at the moment except my FW snail tank so any advice on how to switch everything out??? Should i put my gsp in a 5 gallon bucket untill i switch everything out and my SG is 1.018 right now so it shouldnt have to "cycle" since the LR is cured correct??? just trying to cover everything before the big switch lol

There will be a mini cycle with your LR no matter what.

I would wash the sand, and let it sit for a week or two with an h2o change before adding any fish.

As far as switching everything else over, Im not sure if I really am following you on that one.

Substrate really shouldnt effect your pH noticeably (except maybe some stabilization) unless your ph is below 6.5 or so.

well i thought with a sand substrate it would naturally buffer the ph to around 8 am i wrong on this one??? and what do you think this best thing i should do with my puffer while i wait for the sand to settle seeing i do not have an empty tank right now??

Bucket, airstone, heater.

I have kept lions and triggerfish this way for over a week.

The sand will not buffer your ph up two points like that.
