Hey you guys =] hows it been...well right now im in the middle of planning out the structure of the pond....the thing is....how would I heat this whole pond ? Atleast to 76-78 degrees.....Also the plan on the dimension is a 12'x5'x4'....and this is going to be an above ground pond with 2 plexiglass in the front for viewing. How thick should i go as for pressure within a 4' high pond with that kind of lenght......? The price is not a problem no more....before i had a problem in having the money to only by the fish but not the home....but now i have the money to use to support the pond with the equipment! My whole family is in the idea and will all put in money to pay for the water and electricity so yea as that now is out of the way lets get back to the discussion of the pond. What large plants can go in the pond to help with filtration and also not get distroyed by my current fishes in my fish list....? By plants i mean like those roots in the water and the actual plan t above the water line. There was a video on youtube with someones aquatic santuary for rescued silver arowanas, pacus, catfish,a single piranha, and i think a trimac or and a devil....Those roots in the vid are like what im looking at getting to add to the sides of the pond...

You can buy red mangroves for your pond. as long as they are legal where you live.

somebody i think portabuddy is/was working on a huge pond and his it hink he said brother? joked about running the pond down to the house (the pond is in ground) and then having a viewing windo for the pond in the basement! so this way you can put ur pond in ground which will help with a more stable temperature enivorment, and you still get ur viewing windows! but if u dont want to do the in ground basement viewing window pond idk for thickness it'll be be very thick!

for heating consult the MFK article where a 50,000gallon tank is built in the basement a similar heating on a smaller scale would probably be appliable to ur project!:D hope this helps!:D

Hey catfishlover106, I moved this to the proper forum so you can get more answers.

So are you wanting two 4' x 3' viewing ports?

Heating can be solar (cheapest), gas (if gas is available at your site) or electric (easiest).

What are your DIY skills? or are you wanting everything prefab?

Only long rooted plants are mangroves like Fish Eat Fish said but they take a while to grow and don't filter as well as these...

Cattails are fantastic filter plants and can be found in the wild really cheap. :D

Most lilies float on the water. Watch what some places try to sell you, your looking for emergent plants. Wild rice, reeds and rushes work to.

Got a link to that youtube thingie?

Hey Thanks for moving it for me =] And yes i do want 2 4'x3' viewing ports. But how thick should I basically go? I might go solar or just electric...still thinking about it.As for my DIY skills iono but I do build lots of stuff....like I made my uncle and grandparents filters for their ponds and some plexiglass tanks....This is going to be my very first pond that I will be making....so im still new at this point. As for having everytihng prefab....i may go this way but were still dealing with what we may do to start building it...so were only in the process in doing things with the Pros and Cons of this project. As for mangroves i can get some but for sure their is one i think that is illegal...i think its the red one but im not accurately sure about it.And i'll keep those different plants in mind. And as for the that link to that youtube thing iono my uncle and cousin runs their account and i don't know their password to it so i have no access to it ryt now.But i'll try getting them to bring up the link to the vids

Hello thank you for those formal information =] i will consult with the MFK article in that 50,000 gallon thread

sticking with the portabuddy inspired viewing window:D! if u wanted the pond outa bround u could put the pond next to the house and have the viewing port as a window in ur walland have the wall insulated around the window

Safe bet on the glass is 3/4". Sounds like you know enough not to hurt yourself with a screwdriver :D so thats' good. We can move on from here.

We definitely don't promote illegal plants here so check with your state wildlife authorities on it.

Never mind the Pro's & Con's just build big  (:j/k: (kinda)).

One point of order...solar doesn't have a monthly bill, but you do need a little space.

yup =] but i'll stick with a plant that is great with filtrating the water and looks good that comes from the amazon river basin...but what would you need to apply to have a solar energy panel to gain that energy to be use for the other appliances like for the heaters....and stuff?

I'm talking about passive solar water heating, not a photovoltiac system which would be cost prohibitive.
