So I recently set up a Sunsun/"perfect outside filter" HW-402B for a new tank.

Here is the back story....I have had this set up since yesterday and it will start to leak about two hours after the initial priming. I pulled the whole head unit apart and found water in it. I know that there shouldnt be any water in the top of the unit so I cleaned and re-lubed the seals to see if that is going to help. Luckily I have it in a large bucket so when it does leak its not to big of an issue if i catch it in time. SO my source of the frustration is this........If this re-lubing/tightening doesnt work, what the hell do i do? I am going to have to eventually leave this tank running on its own without having to worry about flooding, but I just dont trust this dang filter yet. I also have an inline heater so I HAVE to have this filter running 24/7.

Now that Im sitting here typing this I can see that there is an output of bubbles from the outflow pipe every two to three minutes. Im assuming that there is still a small leak where the inflow/outflow attach to the filter and its sucking in air. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am about out of ideas at this point.

Just give it a shake every few minutes until the bubbles stop. Angle the filter till the two tubes are pointed up and shake it hard. Repeat this multiple times until you can shake the filter while flat on the ground without bubbling. Before you close the unit again cover all the seals with vasoline or something similar, that way you can eliminate that as the problem. You also need to make sure all the baskets are perfectly aligned since they can cause issues if they are off just a tiny bit. I know it may seem like it may not matter much, but when you are putting the baskets in the inlet should line up exactly, if not then there is an issue somewhere which will cause lack of flow. If everything is sealed and clamped properly than there shouldn't be any leaks. If you still have a problem then try to find the exact location of the leak and let us know. Most likely if you have a defective piece than it can be easily replaced.

added some vasoline to all the seals and cleaned them. also shook the hell outta that filter till no more bubbles came out........no leak so far knock on wood!

the head unit is still leaking, going to demand a refund and buy a gd eheim

That's exactly what I would have suggested. While some people have had good luck with some of the discount Chinese equipment, I would never risk it. Saving $100 on a filter (or $300 for that matter) is no savings if it kills your fish or damages your floor...
