Hi I just got a new 6x2x2 for Xmas and it came with a Eheim 2028 Professional 2.

So i filled up the tank, set up both of the 300 w heaters and the lights etc..

Set up the Eheim, plugged it in, it makes a light humming noise, but doesent seem to be doing anything, no suck on the inlet and nothing coming out of the outlet.

The filter came with no instructions as it was a private sale, however i know it was working because i saw it before i bought it.

Is there anything i am doing wrong? how do i make it prime? on my Fluval 404 it has a prime thing on the top..like a key you pull in and out and it gets it going, but i can't see anything on the Eheim :S

Can anyone help?

Isn't there a prime button on the eheim 2028?

And the tank is underfiltered. The eheim pro 2 2028 does 277gph. Your tank holds about 180g. Which means you have a turnover rate of 1.5x, which is barely enough. You want a turnover rate of between 5-10.

I recommand getting a eheim 2260 which is a monster doing like 634gph. Both filter would give u a total of 911gph, which is about 5x turnover rate if my calculations don't fail me.

Sorry I can't help you more about your filter, I'm a supporter of Hagen's FX5 FTW!!! :) I'll leave those eheim lovers to help you with your current filter problems.

PS : WTH!!! Life is unfair, i didn't get a single present for xmas and you got a 180g!!! :irked: Lucky guy!

well although im an eheim owner, i dont own that one lol..heres my suggestions.. if theres valves on the intake hose, suck on the valve until water starts flowing, then close the valve, screw it on the intake plug, then open the valve, letting the filter fill up..its how u do it with a 2217. but like stated above, youre way underfiltered..if you had an fx5 then you'd be talkin..but 2262 is even more manly!..concider an FX5 ASAP for the best filter ever for the money!

Did you try filling the canister with tank water?
I'm not an advocate of overfiltration but I agree a 1.5x turnover rate is insufficient, unless the tank is very lightly stocked. I'd aim for a combined turnover rate of 4-6 times, unless you're very heavily stocked or have fish that enjoy or need a current to swim against, in which case the additional flow would be better provided by powerheads.

Theres no vavles or anything, just pipes, i found the prime button, its that huge plastic round thing on the top.

I still cant seem to get a flow going tho.

I opened it up, filled it up with water with a jug, turned it on and started priming but still not going...gahhh

Should i suck on the hose for the outlet? to trying and mkae flow come through? sureley if i sucked the intake, it would cause a backward syphon, the opposite to what i want?

And yeh im looking into getting a FX-5 to go with this filter, but i still want to get cycling with this one.

By the way sorry the tank is 5x2x2 not 6x2x2, i keep saying that...stuck in my head for some reason, maybe because that was what i was going for in the first place :P

And yeh my Mrs. spoilt me this Crimbo :P she got me this, a puppy, a new 360 with kinnect and games, some armani....i got a amazing Lady :)
