Picked up a small retic. ray today from a fellow MFKer. He is on the thin side. Pick up and drive went smooth, got him acclimated, then introduced him to the tank. He's been in there since about 12 noon. About an hour (8pm) ago I put in cut up nightcrawlers and he didn't eat any. I then put in some live blackworms and used a turkey baster and shot the blackworms right under him. Again, he refused to eat. Am I worrying too much or should I just give him more time to settle in?

With my other two rays, they were both eating w/in an hour of in the tank. I'm also worried b/c the new ray looks really thin, his tail is really skinny, his pelvic bones are showing, and he REFUSED to eat live blackworms. According to all the threads I've read, that's the food item that most use to get there rays to eat. Anything I can do other then to just give him more time to settle?? I want him to get eating b/c I don't think he is gonna last too long if he doesn't eat soon. Thanks.

I honestly just glanced at the ray in the parking lot. I assumed it would be in good condition b/c it was from a fellow member. Plus it was hard to tell, the ray was in a white styrofoam container and could only view from above. I should of taken a closer look but what's done is done. I just need to get him eating.

He said the ray was fed krill. If the ray ate krill, I'm almost 100% he wouldn't refuse one of their favorite food selections, live blackworms.

how long has this owner had him? my retics took a while to start eating, keep trying he'll come around

I think about a month. I tried feeding him live blackworms again, and he "pounced" on them but didn't eat any. Hopefully I'll get him to eat tomorrow.

My first ray took about three days before he would eat blackworms. I think it just takes some rays a little longer to adjust than others. I also was so concerned that I think I stressed the ray out by the amount of times I tried to feed her. Give it some time. My ray was very skinny and she is now fat and happy. Give it some time and space to settle in. Just my 2 cents, I wish you the best of luck.

I've only had luck with my retics eating blackworms, bloodworms, and krill.
It took my male a day or 2 to start eating well.

With the move and your water parameters likely being a little bit different, it's not unusual that the ray would be hesitant to eat. Give it a few days for it to settle in.
