Hello,

I have recently picked up a H.O.T Magnum by marineland.. So set it up according to the instructions and turned it on.. But instead of starting up it just made the sound like it couldn't suck any water.
I'm not too sure where to go from here as I have taken the filter apart a few times and reassembled according to the instructions, if anyone can shed some light on this and help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Is there any water in it? You probably need to prime it.

make sure everything is seated in place, fill it all the way up with water, make sure the D shaped o-ring is in place and not twisted at all, place top on and and lock it into place, put it on your aquarium and plug it in and fire it up with the on/off switch.

I have done all that and had to reset the gaskets twice.. I have also made sure to fill it all the way up. When I turn it on it pushed out all the water that is in it and then is can't grab anymore.

pix?

I've had similiar problems with mine, but not until it was over 10years old. It got harder and harder to get it restarted after cleaning until I replaced the impeller. Prob: SOLVED

Is it brand New? Check to see that the impeller is not obstructed in any way, it can be turned on 'dry' with the lid off and should spin freely.

Watch for excess air in the intake. I don't actually fit the top on my 300HOT until it's hanging on the tank. this allows the intake to fill with water as it is submerged before the gasket is sealed.

I ran the impeller dry and all looks fine.. But I am thinking there is an air leak somewhere as when I start up the filter it pushes water out just fine.. But when can't get anyone from the intake.. But when I turn it off you can hear it suck air from somewhere and the canister fills up with some more water.

Not to sure how to troubleshoot that.

:irked: I'm assuming you checked to make sure you have the input and output hoses connected correctly? Its starting to sound like there's a check valve and you're running it backwards. idfk
