I've kept africans before and currently own a breeding pair of malawi eye biters. I'm wanting to get some julies but i've never really read up on them and there isnt alot of detail about them on the net so if anyone can give me any tips on keeping them and the tank reccomended size and group size that would be great :)

i got one in my 150. its about 2" and its doing fine with 3.5" frontosas. not very agressive fish but they seem to hold their own

I got about three different types of julies in my tank, various sizes and amounts of each. They can be really aggressive to new tank mates and anything smaller than them. They are really aggressive to own types and less but still aggressive to other julies...

They like rocks and places to hide, shells will work when small as well, but small reefs with open places to swim work... Build up with rock and they will stay off the bottom all the time. Often mine swim upside down at the top of the tank at feeding time when they are little to eat some flake... when larger they will eat pellets fine, they enough brine and worms as well...

how many julies of each species do you have?

Juli. marlieri and Juli. regani are generally the two largest species reaching 8 or more inches. The popular "J. transcriptus" from Gombe is a dwarf form of J. marlieri. There are other dwarf forms of marlieri as well.
J. dickfeldi is the mid-sized julie, averaging about 5-6" but I've seen a huge sucker of a dickfeldi at 7".
Juli. transcriptus and J. ornatus are the two smallest Julidochromis species averaging 4".
If you plan on mixing Julies with Dimidiochromis I would not recommend the dwarf Julies, possibly even not dickfeldi. They grow considerably slower than D. comps and risk being eaten if they are not too large to fit into a D. comps mouth.
The J. regani and most J. marlieri can grow large enough to be reckoned with.

my dwarf are not with D. comps... with a. comp and a. calvus, my d.comps are in with mbuna and open water haps.. No fear, my small julies will stay with shellies and peacocks, maybe a buffalo head and other tangs... My A. comps will split with the Juli M. and Front show tank... They are small now and will all move over in about two-three weeks in their new 125 or 150... Will go into my show room with seating and 120 cube, the front tank, and future 300+... The 135 that I moved today will setup and the mbuna hap tank will move into that upstairs in my loft living room. My side of the garage is being converted into a breeding, holding, grow out room for mine and other MCA buddies in the area... I am really into it...will post pics as I go... close on the house in 19 days will have pics of rooms empty and will add as I go with building and setup... I missed that he was putting them with D comps... sorry, good advice on that...thanks for the save... I might have someone cursing me for the mistake...
