I have a 55g tank. Its an overstocked, over filtered Cichlid tank. Plants are not my first concern obviously, but I enjoy having them.

As far as lighting and filtration and c02 go.
Ive got 2- 48" two bulb t8 fixtures. I have a Flora sun bulb directly over the majority of the plants, a Tropical sun 5500k bulb in front of that, and then two 6500k sunlight bulbs in front of them. Total of 128w. although it is t8 bulbs.

Filtration consists of an emperor 400, an aquaclear 110, a rena xp3, and an odyssea cfs 500.

Co2 set-up is two 2l yeast bottles fed into a 20 oz bubble counter then for a reactor its fed into the venturi of a AC 30 powerhead pointed directly at the bottom.

Water level is kept as high as possible to keep surface disruption to a minimum.

Substrate in the tank is a mixture of flourite and PFS. Although because of the fish stock all plants are rooted in terracotta pots Filled with pure flourite about an inch under the lip. This keeps the plants in better substrate and my weekly maintenance down. I used to have trouble with uprooting, but it is far far less of a problem now.

Plant stock is Anacharis to hide some of my equipment, crypts, and a dwarf lily. I am going to the store to buy some anubias for my drift wood, and some more crypts.

I was wondering if ferts would help my growth.

If you guys had any recommendations on securing my plants better, so that I can get a good root structure faster.

And last but not least what other plants can I grow? BTW mosses are out of the question. I have tried them twice now, I had a gorgeous 12lb rock with moss securely grown on it for months in another tank, a day later no more moss. Tried moss in other places doesnt last more than a day. The fish dont touch anything else tho.

seems like a good setup. Key with plants is patience. While you have enough light you might consider replacing them later on with LEDs. Expensive yes but they work and for less electricity consumption you cant go wrong. As far as fertilizer I like using it and it does seem to help. As with everything else in fishkeeping use moderation. Dont add too much otherwise youll find yourself with unwanted growth if you know what I mean.

I bought a bottle of flourish. I was pricing all of the liquid ferts and this is by far the cheapest to use continuously. If I use the recommended dosage I believe a bottle will last the majority of the year.

Today I used aluminum foil and covered the black painted reflectors with it and it seemed to make a huge difference.
