So I have this hazy/scratched Acrylic tank I took down so I could try and fix it. I hated not being able to see the fish clearly. So I got Novus 1-3 and went to work, however it isn't doing much at all.

I got some clean lint free cloths and a polisher.

Seen here http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90219

This thing does pretty much nothing, apply any pressure and it doesn't spin.

So I have been doing it mostly by hand. Now I used the # 1 spray on the top brace and it cleaned it up real nice.

The tank is a different story, the previous owner was a moron and used one of these to clean the tank. :irked:

Not this exact one but similar, it is for glass and it very abrasive. He may have also kept Plecos in it for all I know...

So it is a mess, the entire front surface except the very top and very bottom are hazed. You can't really feel the imperfections but you can see it. It's like millions of tiny scratches. So I have done this one spot over and over and it doesn't look much better. I did # 3 then # 2 then # 1 over and over and it's not doing much.

So here are the questions.

1. How much Novus did you put on the cloth? And how much area did you do with that amount?

2. How long did you rub it in before wiping off?

3. How many times did you have to do it over to see results?

4. Did you do it by hand or use a polisher, if so which one?

Thanks.

I have been using a dime sized amount to do an area about the size of a sheet of paper, I rub the polish until it dries up per say. Which is only maybe 20-30 seconds then wipe it off with a clean cloth. I can tell the area I have done because it's cleaner but not really any clearer.

Is this thing gonna need sanded or do I just need a better polisher for the Novus?

I really didn't expect it to take this long or be this difficult after all the praise Novus got, I expected to "Wax on, Wax off" and it to look like new. Instead I am out an hour or two so far, $25 poorer and my tank still looks like pewp. :nilly:

First, the hand polisher is not meant to spin. It's an oscillating sander. It vibrates really fast to do the work. The reason they spin when there is no pressure applied is because they are on a rotating motor that is off balance causing the vibration.
