Well i havent been on here for a long time but i need some help. Im doing a presentation on how important it is for us to save the monster fish from extinction for my zoology class. So far i am going to talk about the giant mekong catfish, giant carp, nile perch, giant freshwater stingray, and arapiama. But i cant think of anymore giant freshwater species, can you help me out. plus pictures would be great since i am doing a power point presentation. I am only talking about giant freshwater species. thank you very much.

Aren't asian arowanas nearly extinct in the wild?

Wild serrasalmus piranha being caught for aquarium trade (im not sure)

bala sharks are endangered according to wikipedia they get to 15 inch and are schooling fish! O.o

from looking online i found:
Siberian Sturgeon (Acipenser baerii baerii)
Alabama Sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus suttkusi)
Wild Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Quality, not quantity. Focus on the plight of a species or two. Nobody wants to sit and listen to you rattle off scientific names with a false sense of intellectual superiority.

That being said, I do like Neoceratodus forsteri (AUL). Alternatively, you could focus on the larger species of one biotype.

Im just focusing on large fish that are in danger because of humans. Im only focusing on large fish and when i say large i mean atleast over five feet long. Im also not going to rattle off scientific names with a false sense of intellectual superiority. Im just trying to make people realize if we dont do anything to help these monster fish they will go extinct in the wild. For example they want to dam the mekong and amazon river cutting off these monster fish from their spawning grounds.
