Ok, im pissed because i cant have a 200 or 300 gallon tropical fish tank because my mom says i dont have enough room, it cost too much in electricity, and shes got OCD about water on the floor during water changes, I NEED SOME HELP!!!, ok what i want to do know is go fishing, and keep my cold water catches catches :D. Now were i live all the lakes are man made ( i live i chula vista, cali) and the fish are introduced from the rivers and natural lakes. all i know or have seen so far are bluegill and some kind of catfish live only been fishing twice. Do i need heaters are they nesessary? my house temp is at a constant 72. with my tropical fish tank that i wanted it would have used 2, 300 watt heaters, with pumps for my wet dry: two pumps that are 140 watt 1503 gph pumps (cycles tank 9 times), but i could use a RIO 32 HF (115 watts, 1920gph, cycles tank 5 times) less electricity but not as much tank turning. also how would i do water changes without giving my mom a heart attack or making me take down the thing and throwing the fish back into the lake? The tank WOULD be in my room on the very bottom floor and i already have a water supply from my garage hose but the nearest drain is my kitchen sink but its upstairs and dont want to haul dozens of buckets all the way upstairs. and finally I DO HAVE SPACE!!! :grinno: :grinno:

In that area there are a lot of small native that are pretty cool and wont need heaters/chillers if you keep well areated. Try sticklebaccks, topminnows, suckers, darters, and various chubs and shiners. You will find most of these in very small creeks, like those that run through local parks. Hie thee hence to the public library and check out a patterson's or audobon field guide, they will show what lives in your area and what kind of water they like. A 1'x1 1/2' net on an 8' handle works great. Keep your eyes open for frogs, newts, and inverts as well. Some of your Daces, Pirate perch, etc, get over a foot long and are both colorful and active.

no heater

WOOOHOOO this looks good found a drain by my house!!, found some noyce energy effient pumps, and i got my moms friends to encourage to let me have my own monster tank, i just gotta stay on her good side, all i need is a job (im 18 so i need a job anyway) to make some dinero and i should be ok i got a total of 500$ from my family for graduation so im off to a good start.

can i keep a tiger muskie in a 96l x36w x 24h tank? is that to small. i google searched AND THIS FISH IS SO BEAUTIFULLLLL!!
If you get a small one 6" you might be able to keep it a couple years. They get big fast.

Brother Delgado..

Your house temps are at 72? Year round, and in the middle of the summer also?

As you know I live in Dago too, and our temp inside today was every bit of 77
degrees +

This is my advice to you, it may sound like others advice and some is similar to it, but its just my opinion:

A) Get the BIGGEST tank you can when it comes to your native tank, large bodys

of water allow more room for mistakes with ammonia and ph fluctuations.

B) Toss the heater, you wont need it. Spend your $$ on really good filters

with high water flow instead

C) If your gonna roll with just local S.D. natives that you catch, you might want

to take a trip to Otay Lakes and check them out. Look for Largemouth Bass,

Green Sunfish, Bluegill, Brown Bullhead Cats, Channel Cats.

D) Cuyamca Lake is along way from you , but a good source of natives also

(East County)

E) If you decide to go smaller natives, there are a number of daces and

sticklebacks that can be caught locally.

F) The Muskie IS truly awesome but will get big. But thats what this site is all

about BIG FISH....so you are in the right place. :welcome:

P.M.me if you have any other questions regarding local stuff

Later,
