I have a 29 Gal with tahitian moon substrate(sand). i cant seem to keep the bottom very clean i have cut back on feeding and stuff like that but it still is like a layer over the sand. i have a bunch of MTS in there and they dont even seem to come up above the sand. i have tried to siphon out as much as possible but the next day there is more than there was before i started to siphon. any help would be great

i have swordtails a pleco a small polypterus for now and a gold dojo loach. the crayfish wouldnt hurt any of those? i was thinkin it would the swords. pictus cat ill look into til i kno that crayfish wont go after swords

Crayfish will kill any fish they can catch, including one bigger than they are. One suggewstion is to add a powerhead angled so that the flow disturbs the bottom, that will suspend the detritus so that the filter can deal with it.
It sounds like you need a stronger filter.

i am usi9ng a millenium 2000 i think ity was ment for a 20 i used to have. ill look into gettin a better one what would u guys recomend. money is very tight too.

OK, I have the same substrate as you in my 250g. I use power heads at a low level, but in your case a power head may look horrible in a smaller tank, so what I have noticed in my tank is that the debris will colect in the lower areas. Like a pit in the sand. Groom most of your sand towards the back so it slopes alot towards the front so you have maybe 1/2 inch of sand in front and gradually going back to about 2 inches at the rear of the tank, then do a quick siphon when it builds up a little at the front. Hope that helps. You could also instead of a power head, use an XP1 or XP2 with a spray bar, that helps alot with moving debris. Bigalsonline.com has them fairly cheap.

OH and Guppy is right about the violent nature of crayfish. I had a large one in my tank before, he grabbed my silver tipped shark and slammed his body down on a rock until he was dead and bent. Seriously!

ok the millenium 2000 i have is ment for 10-40 gallons. am i able to put a power head on there or whatever to help direct the flow. From what it looks like i cant. i think i will just get a better filter alltogether. we will see how that goes.
