im planning to build a mega pond so i can house some arapaimas. i wanted to get some ideas on how to go about this project. i was planning on doing a hybrid of under ground and above ground pond. a veiwing window that would be attached to the house. the whole pond would be inside a green house where i can house some other animals inside aswell. i have a couple of questions in mind.

-would rebar and concrete be the beat way of building a pond?
-how do you water proof a pond to avoid the water seeping out thru the concrete?
-would the house be able to handle the weight of the water structurally since i was planning to do a veiwing window into the living room? (idea was 2ft under ground and 3ft above ground)
-how thick of a glass would you need for a veiwing window?
-how many gallons would this pond be and would this be enough to house to adult arapaimas? L 30ft x W 20ft x H 5ft

well thats it for now.... thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas that would help me out

In order here are the answers (as far I know),
1.) concrete and rebar work well though for curved surfaces professional installation is needed, see Zoodiver's thread. Stepped walls are easier, make sure the concrete is well jitterbugged and don't skimp on thickness, laying the concrete in layers each one foot high and allowing them to cure will minimize cracking.
2.) There are several pond and pool sealant products available that are fish safe once cured, some seem like no more than waterproof paint, others are a resin and fiber mix much like fiberglass but with loose fibers instead of cloth, it froms a hard waterproof shell that is then painted.
3.) If the pond is adjacent to the house but is built to stand alone, not relying one the house structure for support it should do fine.
4.) I have no idea about the glass thickness but there are glass thickness caculators available if you care to use the search function.. You will need volume, and the height and length of the veiwing panes to use them.
5.) the rough formula for volume is Height x Length x Width in feet x 7.4= gallons

5 x 30 x 20 x 7.4= 22,200 gallons approx.

That sounds awesome
What other animals would you keep in the greenhouse?

i was thinking of having a few birds and iguanas. torts would be a good idea too but depends on the set up of my ground. dont want them to be flipping over on their backs every now and then
