Ditch the skulls and fake plant. Buy some driftwood, tie on lots of anubias, profit.

Exactly this. Big piece of manzanita would transform that tank instantly. What do you have for fish?
 
Brich999 I def want some nice DW. It's just so hard to find a good large piece of DW down here in South Florida and I don't know if my current light is good for live plants. Also, I only have one Hujeta gar in there right now. Currently looking for some other stock to put in there.

I had a bunch sent from manzman in the vendor section. Also depending on the plant, some do fine with very little light. Here are a couple low light plants on manzanita just to give you an idea

I am learning the hard way that plants take A LOT less light than you'd think. I bought Finnex, don't run CO2, and all I grew was algae. Went back to 6500K bulbs in the T8 fixtures that came with the tank, dose the tank with dry ferts (EI), and Anubias is sprouting new leaves every couple days. In addition to DW and plants, get some round river stones. I got way more than I need for like $10 at a landscape stone shop in my town, they help alot, too.
 
Brich999 - thanks for the heads up on manzama! Just looked at his website and they have some awesome pieces. Also, would regular fluorescent shop lifting work for those low light plants?

Ragin-Cajun - I have some pretty cool river stones I may throw in there. Great idea.

Green and brown always looks nice, and is natural looking. Driftwood/live plants. Keep black substrate.
