need some info on brown bullheads

just got one the other day, hes 16 inches, how big wil they get?

caught him from a pond ,which was cold water ,and now hes in a tank with my oscars
seems to be doing fine at the moment in the warmer water

He's about maxed out right now. You might get another 4-8 inches out of this catfish, but it is more likely he won't get over 20". Voracious feeders that like slightly cooler water temps, can tolerate cold or warm water though. I have kept them in an outdoor pond, and in tanks with temps in the 80's no prob. Worms, shrimp, cichlid pellets, pretty much anything for food, and make sure he has a nice hiding spot.

also post a pic if you can to confirm the id. Sometimes people are mistaken. I've been a victim of it myself.

piks aint the best but shud be enuf, im prety sure its wot i fink it is.. let me kno if im wrong tho. its just here in nz we dont usuly have any big cats except bullheads

Almost certainly a brown bullhead, given that they are widespread in NZ. Check for pectoral serrations.

seems to be ok during the day but when the lights are out ive seen him have a go at the oscars

If the back of his pectoral fin bears serrations like that on a ripsaw, then it's likely a brown. Also, if the oscar is smaller than the bullhead, then there may be problems. Otherwise, he should be very personable.

the 2 oscars are 9inchs and the bullheads 16inchs.... lol

hmmmmmm im sure the oscars can handle him tho, just hope they dnt get stressd at night or get eatn!

they sound like a midnight snack to me i been waiting for a suppler to get brown bullheads for my catfish tank
