I saw two that were awesome at my LFS's today..very interested in them but i do not know much about them except they are a cool water fish..and are a schooling fish..although i only wanted two... they went for about $25 each for about 2-3 inch size.. before i get them i just want to know more about them.. anybody have them..please post pic and tell me about them..thanks

If you are talking about the ones I am thinking of(banded pattern, very high dorsal fin) they get about 2-3 feet, lose the high fin and striped pattern, becoming more of a greyish color as they mature. Hope this helps.

I believe that is a help.. netherwords they get plainer looking as they get older.. but i just think that they are awesome with their chocolate color and white bands.. but also seem to be very peaceful.. i want to learn as much as possible so if you have more info please post..thanks :D

Do a search for myxocyprinus asiaticus. If this is your fish there is alot of info out there.

I just found out almost everything i needed to know.. they would go perfectly with my goldfish in the outdoor pond..{i bring them in in winter} they get very drab and lose their high dorsal fin as you mentioned and become dull grayish..love Algae or algae pellets.. they live for 20 years .. and somewhere i read they were endangered in Asia.. anyway still thinking about it.. thank you again for all your help.. everything i needed!! Liz

yup they are a coldwater species, coming from the rivers of china.

They are pretty much a pond fish, and get reall really ugly wehn they get older, but eat tons of algae and I hear they pretty much keep your pond spotless.

I have heard places that this fish is on the endangered species list or close to it,and that aquarium specimen are farm raised here in the U.S.

EDIT:oops didnt read your last post,LOL
