Need some info on Niger cat.

Hi guys!

I cant find much info on niger cat online.
Am interested in getting one to comm with my gars (trop, Cuben, fliroda)
I heard its a good and peaceful fish.

Am just worried that ill have a problem of it eating too much. Will they be like a Giraffe catfish? i heard thats a real vacuum cleaner.

Will a niger cat eat a crazy amount of food? And also what will they normally eat?

At 20" mine ate a half-handful of Hikari Sinking Wafers 4-5 times a week, not a ton for the size of fish it was. They do grow big fast, I had to re-home mine to the local Zoo's 12,000G Amazon tank after about two years.
 
These guys work great with gars, my current 5 niger catfish are housed with some cubans, floridas and a longnose. The trio I used to have was in with my gator gars. No problems except for some nipped fins from the gators.

My fish are not fed a very large amount. The tank is fed a handful of pellets twice per day as well as some sort of frozen food every couple days. The gars eat about half and the rest makes it down to the catfish. In addition to this I have purposely infested my tank with snails, so they can eat these if they are hungry. With this feeding situation I haven't seen any flat bellies on my guys so they are getting more than enough to eat. As well even with this portioned diet they are still growing at about an inch a week. If allowed to these cats will pig out though.

As far as what I specifically feed my nigers, I use 4-5 types of floating and sinking pellets blended together. They frozen food the tank is fed is squid, silversides, shrimp, tilapia fillets, pollock, etc. Anything meaty I can find for cheap.
 
I don't have anything else really to offer as far as advise. They are pretty hardy and straightforward large growing cats. I do want to correct one thing I had previously said though. In regards to growth rate mine have been growing about an inch a month, not an inch a week.

This guy is in a 450. After 18 months i'm looking for a larger tank! The pictures are at the same location in the tank. That black overflow it's in front of is 8" to give you an ides how large the fish is. I estimate it at 2 feet right now 8 to 10 pounds?
