Hey im currently saving for a 125 gallon tank.SO close of getting it:) anyway i was looking on a website and found a really cool fish called a red fin pickerel. I instantly knew thats the fish i wanted but i dont have much info on it:( i really want one and possibly more and this may be odd but i wouldnt mind trying to breed them. ANy info on breeding or general care will be appriceiated:D only if i knew how to spell lol

I have kept the western subspecies of this fish, the grass pickerel (Esox americanus vermiculatus). Care for redfins should be about the same.

Pickerel are lurking predators and need calm water and lots of cover to be comfortable; a good thicket of hornwort, anacharis, or other plants is the best thing for them, but they also appreciate driftwood or other hard structure. There are few suitable tankmates. Hardness and pH are not important so long as they are not extreme, and they thrive at room temperature. I have always fed mine live shrimp, crayfish, and fish. They are supposed to be difficult, but not impossible, to train to pellets. Typical adult size is 10-12".

I have not tried to breed this fish. You may get more info on that subject posting this in the North American native fish section here or on the NANFA forum.
