125 gallon tank:

-10 inch dempsey
-Two 8 inch oscars
-6 silver dollars
-Pleco
-Tire track Eel

265 gallon tank:

-Five 6"+ Vieja's
-Six small clown loaches
-two jack dempseys, firemouth, green terror; all somewhat young
-small oscar
-pleco
-bichir

The 125 gallon has been up for about 9 months and I'm now starting to see a lot of aggression from the jack dempsey towards one the oscars, especially when the lights go off.. lots of splashing. So far no serious injuries just a few scratches here and there.

The 265 has been up for about 5 months now and the vieja are getting old enough to where territories are still being decided and lately I've started seeing territorial aggression between a few of the larger ones, both males but other than that everything is fine in there.

I know both are stocked heavily, I do water changes every two weeks and have tons of filtration. Even though the 6 silver dollars in the 125 aren't involved in the aggression, would it help if I moved them and/or the eel to the 265 by freeing up space in the 125 tank?

I'll put pictures up, thanks!

Wc every two weeks arent enough do test regularly ?

The jd may have to be rehomed or try changing the decor
Moving the sd's may make it worse...allot of people dont like mixing sa/ca cichlids....tour making me have second thoughts of adding a jd to my tank

I haven't been testing regularly in awhile. It's got a fx5, xp3, and eheim 2217. A single one of those could handle the tank a lone so I haven't really been worried about that. They all look good though. Can't move the jack dempsey, had him almost ten years now. Oscars are only a year or so old I could re home one of the oscars if it came to that. Would it help moving the 6 silver dollars you think or would that not make much of a difference. Re arranging is a good idea I will probably try that

Getting rid of the SDs might make it worse. They can be good dithers. Other than re homing one or 2 of the big cichlids I would try re-arranging the decor but that might only be a temporary fix

Dont remove the sd's and all the filtration in the world isn't going to substitute wc...every two weeks is not ideal. Maybe rehome the oscars if it doesnt work and get central american that would match your jd's aggression
...maybe a salvini

Your 125 is overstocked. Only a minimum size for 2 Oscars. They are small for their age, this is from insufficient water changes. Your nitrates are sky high, filtration is great, but nitrate is the end product of the nitrogen cycle and removed via water changes. You need a minimum 75% weekly change or health issues will soon develop, hith, lle, immune system weakening. If JD is hammering on Oscar, it wont let up. Remove an Oscar and JD will possibly target the other.

I bet if you rehome one of the oscars the other oscar will start to et beat on.

If you only changing the water once every two weeks then you big canister filters are acting as big nitrate factories.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm going to up the water changes and see about moving around the decor.

Another question, do you think it'd be a problem to put more dithers in the 265 gal, like some red hook silver dollars?
