Tomorrow I am picking up a 6" Elongatus Piranha for my 75 gallon tank. I am currently in a HUGE debate about whether or not to get a black mask elong or a red-throated elong. I've NEVER even heard of red-throated elongs before but this store has some in stock and they are so rare google images cant find a pic of one, lol. So... should I spend the $100 on a black mask or $175 on a red-throat? It would be pretty sick to have a fish THAT rare but thats a LOT more money for one fish...

Also, as this will be my first piranha, any and all tips/advice is welcomed. Such as the perfect temp to keep the tank at.

Thank you.

I don't think they will behave any different (of course each fish has different personality), just appearance. if you are not that crazy about the additional red throat on the fish then just keep the $75 for other things.

As another stated it could be diet or just locality of the elong that produces the red throat.interesting! Tips for keeping your new fish.read the stickies will help tons! IMO since you aren't paying shipping I'd get the red throat.you'd be getting a red throat for what I paid for a BME from same place.so your basically getting more for your $$ I would get what your most attracted to as its gonna be your fish. GL

thank you very much. i picked up the black mask. he ate a platy, i put 3 in the tank with him. but this was about 8 hours ago and he is still really shy. just sits in the same spot behind a rock. but he is a MEAN little guy. i cant wait to grow this monster out.
