Hey everyone, I have a situation that I need some opinions on. Yes I will ultimatley make my own decsision, but still. Also SORRY IT's SO LONG and PLEASE excuse my typos. I am at work x_x

So here is the deal: I just got a new job but I have not started yet. I am supposed to start training in 2 1/2 hours but I think I am going to quite. Its at an autosstore (like the ones on the corner of the road). They want sales people and the store is 45min from my house, but 7min from my bf's house. I want to quite b/c they want their cahsiers to be sales peole now and upsale bunch of crap and have $20 sales per customer -which I dont see happening and my personaility... well I am terrible at that stuff and I hate doing it. I have to leave my job in August b/c it wont work out with my school schedule (which I cant change b/c they only offered one chem 2 class this semster and I need it.). I was thinking about going back to publix 3 min from my house as I left on great terms with them. I am stuck on that one b/c I need to make sure I have a job when I leave my current one.

Part 2: When I start school I only plan on working for 15-25hours a week and no more then 4 days a week. I just found out last night that internships opened for the Centeral FL zoo and for Seaworld. CFZ=17 hrs/wk minimum and Seaworld requires 1day=8 hours/wk. I would love to do both but with my school schedule: MF-12-1pm, W 8:00am-1pm and TR-2-5pm. I am not sure If I could handle a job plus both internships. I dont want to drop classes b/c I am only taking 2 and they are the last 2 before I can finally graduate (with 80+credits) for my AA and move on. I am taking Chem 2 and Calculus so I will need a lot of study time also. The internship is important to me becuase I can't get a job around here with any thing related to animals with out a BA+1yr expereince and the only way to get that experience is the internships. My problem is I am an Animal and Conservation bio major - but My intrest is in the water side of things so Seaworld would make more sense but the Zoo may be the better chocie as I may end up on land working with all kinds of animals depending on what I decdied to do with my degree down the road and I would love to work in the water - but I would also love to work with all kinds of other animals. I would LOVE to do both. So my question is what should I do??? Seaworld is 35-40min away and Zoo is 30-35min away. I need to make sure I can work also so I can have gas money for the drive(s). So what do I do??

Seaworld= Prep food, monitor animal, keep contact and wareabouts of animal at all times, check its daily habits, how many times it poo's a day - that kinds of stuff and it is with the Orcas

Zoo = Prep food diet and feed, clean cage areas, monitor animals, and help build or repair certian areas of the animals habitats.

I'd say just do Seaworld. It's what you're interested in more and it'll give you more time to focus on your studying. I'm pretty sure you can ask to bump up the hours if you ask them. Be careful of going back to a place that you previously worked, even if you left on good terms. I left LA Fitness as a Trainer and I wanted to go back. I left on good terms, but they told me that corperate won't allow me to come back. They won't give me a reason either. All they said was they have "criterias" that they look at and she told me that no one knows this criteria but the commity which no one can talk to :irked:

Wow.. first quit the autostore job.. if it's not you than it's not you, kinda unrealistic for anyone to think you can upsell every customer on $20.00 of stuff they didn't come in for. And as a customer I would avoid going back in there if that happened.

At least you have a fall back with publix though, you've already worked there so shold be minimal stress going in and not much learning/training required.

For the internships. I really don't know. I almost want to say you could take either. But I like the idea of orcas with the seaworld one. Hopefully people who work at zoo's/aquariums as a profession like zoodiver/others will give their opinion.

are they paid internships or non-paid? I would recommend do both... if it's too much to handle then just quit one of them... whichever one you don't like as much. If you are unsure what path you want to head down later in life then I think you should give both of them a shot and see what happens. If I were in your situation I'd do both. I'm in school too and have a job and I know what you mean trying to balance your time. I couldn't imagine having 1 or 2 internships on top of all that. But if you can fit it into your schedule then I say go for it.

If the autostore will not make you happy, then try to go back to the last job. You do not have to completely ditch the autostore to reapply to the last job. Just continue to go to training and reapply at the same time. If the last job rejects you, you still have a job...If your heart lies more in water than on land, go with Seaworld...

do the internships, paid or unpaid. it is the best choice in the long run and can open doors for a future career.

Well the autostore issue I dont want to go through training have them schedule me and depend on me for me to just quit and If I quit I dont want to have to use them has an employer reference if I get hired and then quit. It is nice to have a job to fall back on but I would prob. get fired anyway cuse I cant upsell esp. with the economy the way it is.

On another note - Yes I do love water, but I also love all kinds of animals such as reptiles, furry things, big things, small things, slimy things I could go on lol so I think I would be happy either way. I could fit both into my sched but then I have no time for anything including studying and math is not my strongest point unless I study, and I am taking math and chem 2 - which is more math. So I am not sure I could really handle both.

YEs they are un-paid. So I HAVE to have a job b/c I have bills to pay and I cant get to the internship without gas, so I need a job for that too.

do what you love, love what you do

i could only wish i had an opportunity to intern at SeaWorld :(

short term financial gain does not outweight the long-term benefits and experience you will gain from doing something that you enjoy

look for a job at a pet store / LFS, im sure one of them will give you a job to compliment your internship

Since it's unpaid, go for Seaworld and find another job since the auto store thing sounds terrible.

well not having a job means no internship b/c I would have no way to get there and no way to communicate cuse I couldnt have a phone or car insurance blah blah. I have to have a job there is no way aournd it, I can however work like 15 or so hours a week and survive. barley. I also have to save up b/c I will be on my own next year and have a 5k hosiptal bill (long story). Yes having both internships would be a HUGE beneifit but I can simply not get around not having a job :(

No my parents wont pay for anything and they already have their own issues. Yes they do help me when they can but they can only do so much. I am ok with that, I would rather be on my own and able to handle things.
