hi got all the sand and water in the tank, i was just wondering how long i should wait before turning my filter on to avoid damage to it? water's a bit cloudy but doesn't really look like there's sand floating around still or anything.

help would be appreciated very much thanks!

oh and this might be a stupid question but is it ok to put air stones underneath the sand or do they need to be on top of the sand?

air stones can go underneath most sand. i got one under mine. and you probably should cover you intake if its a hob filter. the sand can damage your impeller. if theres sand floating then dont turn on yet. oh and plz god tell me you rinsed the sand first? i mean rinsed well?

i used an old filter cartridge. cleaned it well cut it small and used fishing line to tie it on. works great just got to make sure to rinse it occationally or else your flow will slow. and also the filter wont suck up poo.

well it's super late but i thank you for your help. have had to rinse the filter cover for my intake just once so far tonight things have settled so i'm sure i'll only have to do it once tomorrow. love the way the sand looks! i'll have to post pictures once we get things settled.

glad to help. i got sand in all of my tanks cerently running, your gonna love it man. just becareful of your filters and you got to be careful when ciphoning your tank.
