my friend has a rtc and it has curl gill. I was wondering if theres anything he can do to help it out. can they tolerate salt?

how big is this guy? I was reading about the same topic because my little guy has it too. Search gill curl on here and you will find some threads about it. Depending on how big it is, it may be permanent. What are the water parameters and what size tank is he in? What type of tank mates does he have? What type of filter is running. Lack of oxygen can also play a factor. Mine had it from the beginning when I got him at about 2 inches.

hes about 4-5 and everything in the water is good hes in a 100 gal tank, i have to ask my friend for the test results.
what will happen if i put salt inside?
how much can i put in there?

do i have to put the salt in a container and put it in the bottom of the tank? how long do i keep the salt in my tank for?

When you say he's 4-5 do you mean inches or years?

If he's only 4-5", you should be able to correct the gill curl if its not too bad. Keep the water crystal clear and do big water changes.

If he's 4-5 years old and in 100g, that would be the reason why he has gill curl.

I think you should be ok if you add salt but I'm not for sure on the quantity. It seems every fish is a little different. If you get the aquarium salt from the LFS it should say on the side of the box, but you can use just plain table salt as well as long as its not iodized.

When adding salt make shore it is compleatly disolved as undesolved salt can and will burn a rtc belly, id say add 1 table spoon of salt for every 5 gallons but not all at the same time do it gradually over a day or two then once at full strenghth leave it for 2 weeks then do a 50% water changes then again a week later a nother 50% water change, also a good idea when adding salt is to have a salt meter so once treating you can make shore it is all gone as it is not a good idea to be in salt for much longer.
But this may not work sometimes it is an iriversable thing but gill curle happens from bad water quality ie to much ammonia but in older fish it can be caused by a lack of vitamins, but it has also been know as a birth defect that has happened as fry.
