Need some tips on taking good pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No flash and not right before or right during or right after feeding.. You want them to be moving slowly as possible if you do not have a SLR..

Patience and willingnes to take 100 to get 1 in the beginning.. after a while you'll start just getting good ones .. :) Delete everything that is not clear, that helped me focus more on making sure i got clear ones :)

What kind of camera are you using? There is different techniques for different styles of cameras.

I use a tripod. Holding the camera is a pain in the *** and they never look as good IMO.

You can usually find one cheap at a garage sale. Got mine for $2-3

Plus you might stumble into a BIGGER TANK!!

Oh yeah speeding up your shutter speed will help grab "still" pics of fish that move around a lot. and they'll be in better focus. I have a Nikon Digital 4300, it works great and wasn't very expensive

Wake up, and wake them up an hour early. They should all be laying around and not doing much. Only do this if they are not sensitive to night fright/light fright. My big midas "The General" spazzes right out when I flick the light on early instead of letting him wake up to sunrise. He will hammer the glass and bite and tear at his driftwood and reflection for a good five minutes. It would make for awesome video, but photos, not so good. ...hmmm, I should wake him up early tomorrow and have the digital in hand :).

Good lighting will help if you're using a cheaper digital. They often have auto shutter speeds that depend on the amount of light available. Photos taken in brighter light will look crisp, while in darker conditions, they'll be blurred.
