Background:I have a 150 gallon tank that I've had for about two months now. Right now there an adult oscar and 5 clown loachs. I bought 1 of two fx5's a couple weeks ago and I'll be getting the second one in about 2 weeks gotta take care of a few big bills before I can get that. Once I have the second fx5 I'm going to be saving up and looking for a 55 gallon to put my green terror who's is a 75 right now in. Then I will be putting my oscar back in the 75 by himself were he was before I got the 150.

Now at first I was going to leave the oscar and clown in there and try to find tankmates. But my oscar is a few years old and is set in his ways so the fish I would have to choose from to stick in there with him would be very limited. So then I was going to do a Mbuna tank but got to thinking it wouldn't be fair on my loachs or oscar to put them all in the 75 and didn't want the loachs in with the cichlids.

Now for the last several weeks my plan has been to set up a community tank in the 150 stock starting with the 5 clowns. I have some ideas of a few fish I want but nothing set in stone. I was just gonna stock as I go as long as they were compatible etc. The more time I spend on this site though the more I start to change my mind.

Now I'm not thinking of anything real small like neons or guppy's but just peaceful fish that pretty much get along with anything. The main reasons I'm wanting to do this is one I want to stock my tank with a lot of fish and I want a lot of different kinds. My second reason is I don't want to have to deal with aggression problems because I'm not one to let my fish fight or get picked on.

What would you guys do if you wanted a lot of fish a big variety and not much aggression and the stock starting with 5 clown loachs. Would you go community like I'm thinking about or would you do something else? Any suggestions are more then welcome.

Thanks

why not try some bichirs, but before you do so, you need to look at the polypterus forum. Since, you hv a big tank, you hv lots of potential to hv some nice monsters in there.

Clown loaches , poly's (ofcourse) silver dollars for middle ? Gourami's for middle ? Its up to you.

What are the tank dimensions ?

The tank is 72 x 25 x 18 I know its up to me I'm just wanting some ideas its kinda hard searching for fish online because its not like a book were you can just go through it and look at all the fish online you pretty much have to already know the name of it.

How agressive or predatoral are ploypterus like would they pretty much eat your average community fish. Also two of my clowns are really small would they become dinner?

Bichirs can eat anything that will fit in their mouths. they even eat the substrate sometimes. it causes big problems if its gravel.
