So I’m finally setting back up and am trying to decide what to get. Thinking about doing a mix till I decide as my lfs is really good about taking fish back and giving credits (I have $400 in store credit from last time I broke down).

My tank is a 6’ 125 and I’m planning on running a fluval fx6 and probably a sponge filter too. Any recommendations on stock ideas?

Also, don’t think my tank is big enough in the first place, but tomocichla tubas won’t do well without a strong current right? Or atleast a stronger current than most lake fish will be comfortable with?

Thanks for taking the time to read, I look forward to the responses!

A 125 is a bit small for tuba, mine started killing each other at a small size in a 150, although my lack of current may have had something to do with the heightened aggression. With only an fx6, I believe a strong power head shooting across the length of the tank would be in order. I was running a Mag pump at 1800 gph. in the 150 from a sump directly below. In nature they prefer to live (mostly) in almost rapids conditions.
If you do try them, be sure and buy enough so a pair form is likely, and expect some carnage. I started with 8, mostly males(?) and half were gone quickly)
The female killed many of the males before settling on one.

Here she is with wrigglers.

It seems asfraci are starting to become available in the states, and Europe, I found them to be slightly less murderous.

I finally gave the female to a friend with some males, she again, only allowed 1 male to live and spawned with him, surprisingly in a smaller tank, but crowded it with maybe a dozen congo tetras that worked well as a distraction for her male killing temperament.

Duane’s always has experience!

Check out Jim Cummings, I believe he had a pair in a video not too long ago.

Ya, he had a pair looking like they may be spawning soon. Didn’t think Tubas would be a good match but I thought I’d ask.

Scrapping everything! Found out someone near me has ptychochromis grandidieri for sale some I'm really hoping to go that way. But it'll still take suggestions if it falls though.
