Florida
I am planning on making a large indoor pond for FW stingrays at my high school. I want this tank to be 10' x 6' x 1' so roughly 450 gallons. I want this to be indoors due to the extreme Florida weather. The problem is that my teacher thinks that this is going to cause nold to grow in the room. So is this true and if there would any way to prevent this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please Guys I need HELP!!!

"So is this true and if there would any way to prevent this."

Well its a generalisation not a fact.

How humid is the room already?
How humid does it need to be for mold to thrive?
Will there be lids?
Will the window be open...

Does anyone care about something that can be easily wiped off...

It is going to be open top other than a net on top at night to prevent jumping. I honestly have no idea on the humidity of the room as of this moment and I have no control of the temp or humidity of the room aswell.

As Burko said, it does depend on other factors, but if there isn't much ventilation in the room, mold is certainly a potential problem. I know that some of my uncovered tanks and sumps have resulted in mold issues.

Many individuals can suffer from allergic reactions to mold. If it was in your home, you'd only be putting yourself at risk, but in a public space like a school you could be putting other students at risk as well. If mold does develop and is not kept under control it could pose a health risk and may require professional mold remediation. The school would probably be liable so I can see why your teacher may be hesitant about the idea.

If you're not going to have a lid, I think the best way to avoid mold issues would be to install ventillation/exhaust fans above the pond.

ok there are three windows in the room that could be opened during the day to provide ventilation, and also run a dehumidifier to eliminate sme of the humidity in the room

well you have to think..on a hot summer day in florida, are the teachers going to let you open all the windows? not having the AC on?? i would doubt it, and i highly doubt they will let you install dehumidifiers, vents, fans, etc in a school enviorment.. just saying. and the mold can cause large problems in a school enviorment as well. i dont know where the funds would be coming from, so...but all these things running in classrooms would be very noisy and destracting IMO..
