hi, i'm new here, but not new to keeping cichlids. My questions are: What are some techniques on breeding larger specie? (Like Trimacs, Midas, Texas, ect... ) Also, does size of parents matter? (Like, to get the job doen successfully). I have tried a couple different ways, and i just wondering, if there is other ways that work. besides the throw a large male with a large female and death to the female? See it's not fun when that happens because then i got to spend another year or so growing up another female. I have read about the egg crate method, and i personally haven't tried it yet, i thought interaction between the "would be parents", would build a better parental bond? Do any of you guys/gals breed useing this method, if so are there any tricks i should know? well thanx in advance for any feeedback, i just getting fed up with looseing nice large females, and the tiresome work to growout others.

I've never bred larger cichlids myself but from info i've gathered here and there, it is better to get 5 or 6 juveniles of one species and let a pair form. then return or sell the other fish and let the pair grow up together.

well with the buying the 6juvis, IMO might be the best, but once they breed at a young age, IME that stunts the growth of the female considerably. and slows the males growth by a bit as well. exspecally if you keep them together and they breed regularly. well i have made a kinda egg crate "cage" in sorts for the female. also i have read that moving the male to the females tank, offers better results?
