I have been looking for another tank to setup in my basement. I found a nice used 210 7x2 tank on CL.
I went to check out the tank yesterday. Tank is still in excellent condition. My question is, I do not know who made the tank. It is probably atleast 5-6 years old. I did not see any bracing on the top of the tank. The tank is glass, and I am wondering in the long run, will I have to worry about seals leaking?
I spoke with a co-work who is pretty big into fish keeping. he is telling me that if the tank does not have any bracing them it is most likely made of starfire glass.
The tank has 2 corner overflows and the trim around the top is a funny looking like design. Not a typical all-glass, marineland or perfecto type plastic trim. Almost looks like the trim was molded to look like natural wood.
The tank is up and running still, so I know theres no leaks or probelms yet. Can someone please help me determine who made the tank and how do I tell for sure if it is starfire.
I did notice that the front glass of the tank is very clear compared to my all glass 125. So I kind of have a feeling what my co-worker is say is true. He also said that usually a tank this size with overflows was probably made for a saltwater setup and that salt water guys usually spend the extra money on starfire glass.
I am thinking I found a diamond in the rough, the setup is current for a freshwater tank. Before I dive into thsi thing I want your expert opinions. Thanks in advance.
