I've seen people do it with 55 gallon barrels. I think for a tank of that size that would be a good way to do it.

I agree...For the past 2 weeks, I've been planning on a DIY for a 180...There are many simple, inexpensive, effective models...Look through the many DIY's, and super size it...I'd say if you can afford such a large tank of 1,000+g, then you can afford to pay a professional to put some type of system together....

I say you should read up on the three types of filtration, but focus on biological fitration. Once you have studied it a little in depth, you should be able to come up with something that will perform at the level you need. Pot scrubbers from the dollar store are cheap media!!

Hello i need to build a wet/dry filter for a 4,000 gallon fish aquarium and i have no idea how. Could anyone walk me though this?

First :welcome: .

Where are you at in NC?

4000g huh? Cool and Why? We are talking industrial here.

What's your budget like?

Do you own your own home?

What's your water like? won't happen to have a good well would you?

Is this aquarium inside or out? Filter inside or out?

One way to start http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j308/twin_two_ron/onetouchfishtankchanger.jpg

Here's a partial explaination http://www.exit109.com/~gosta/pond.sht#filter

here's a multi-container system http://www.geocities.com/ghawkins_ca/Myfilter.html

Something like this on a larger scale http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1773/filter.html

and http://www.gardner44.freeserve.co.uk/Barrelfilter.htm

Different orientation of filter media http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1773/filter.html

And you may want to consider a http://www.thekrib.com/Filters/fluid.html

like this http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_fbf.php

or http://www.sydneycichlid.com/content/?page_id=18

then also http://www.thesea.org/reef_aquarium/DIY/filters/filters_fluidized.php

Keep us posted.

Dr Joe

Well I was going to add my two cents, but I see Dr. Joe got to say all the good stuff again  I'll just sit here and keep reading.

And we gotta know about this 4000g tank!
