ok...look...youve got like 5 threads going on about these same fish, arizona gardens etc...for your future knowledge, all you have to do is have 1 thread addressing all these issues. you dont have to start a new one every single time you want to talk about the same thing.

youve gotten your answers as to what the fish is from Modest_Man, myself and others. The fish is a Uropthalmus (mayan). You dont need any other verification, proof or pictures to decide for yourself...as a mere search on here using the search feature to the left will pull up tons of pictures and discussions the same as you are trying to have.

Now that you know that you are in possession of a Uropthalmus (mayan), move onto the next stage with az gardens in getting your money back.

VRWC has a point. you got taken for a ride. demand a refund and go to another store. if you dont believe the guys here that what you have is a mayan aka Uro then google "Uropthalmus" or "mayan cichlid". that will get you all the pictures you need.

by the way, it is a mayan and definitely not a festae. if they dont know the difference between a mayan and festae then its time to cease doing business with that particular store forever.

those are some nice looking mayan. maybe i have to grab me some.
You should! They are super fun to keep, but keep in mind these fish form strong pair bonds, and will team on ANY fish approaching theire territory.

for instance mine chased away a 14" flowerhorn on several occasions, when they were 4" and 5"

single specimens don't tend to be hyper aggressive though in my experience, but is still very capable of destroying fish of bigger sizes than themselves, should they choose to.
They don't have any real dental work, but they attack the target relentlessly untill the job is done, which will typically overpower any fish in the end, or simply stress them out untill they die.
