I need to clean out his tank but I'm afraid that he will jump out of his tank or bite me...how to do this...any ideas?

what size tank is it ?
what size is your oscar?
have you ever done a water change on the tank before ? if so how did you do it then ?

I know every fish is different as far as temperment goes , but honestley I have never seen a Oscar that was so aggressive that I thought it could do harm to me.

But if your oscar is that aggressive I would put a devider in the tank and that will keep your oscar from getting to you... and I would use egg crate or something else to keep him from jumping out while your working on cleaning the tank.

Hope this helps...

Just tap him on the nose and he will back down, my Oscar used to get a little too hyped up at cleaning time, but they will get out of the way. Just keep and eye on him while you scrub!

You just went ten days without doing a water change?

And even if he bites you, it won't hurt. The worst they can do is get your finger down their throat and rasp at it, but it's no worse than a little horseplay with the cat.

He shouldn't be able to do much harm. When I had a full-grown Midas with teeth I purchased some heavy duty aqua gloves. He was still able to bite but the gloves were so thick he couldn't do any damage. These are the ones I bought.

I kept the left glove for me (I'm left handed) and gave the right glove to one of my friends who has a really mean female Midas, haha!

don't worry, the thrill and adrenaline of getting bitten, is worst than the damage they do.
But they'll get used to the routine and will be interrested in what you are doing in no time.
I have to try and keep them away to get to the gravel where i want to clean.
Then i got my Gar swimming close to my fingers, which can be more frightening but i actually have to move him by hand but in the 2 years i got oscars i only got bitten once during mainetance.lol

Like said, Oscars won't hurt at all. Try cleaning the tank of a Ceylon puffer. If he bites you, you'll probably be missing the tip of your finger! I keep a good eye on him and use a net or the syphon to chase him away.

the worst my Oscar did was at feeding time jumped for his snack and got most of my finger. Only scraped some of the skin off and was barely bleeding. don't worry too much, just get in there and clean that tank!
