price range would of course depend on dealer and where you are.
i would say a few thousand US dollars is a good price in hong kong.
IMO you cannot tell variants by pics alone,
but if you want to go by pics i say best bet is sao benedito from those pics,if it is from brasil.
whatever it is,get it if you have the cash!
an aimara is an aimara, and it is rare!

Try contacting those members that do have Aimara. I'm sure they can assist you with proper I'd. I would do a search for pic threads in the photo lounge then contact them. I can't remember who the members are but I was thinking Ashdavid and Seichi. I know one just posted pics recently of one in the 2' neighborhood that is thought to be the only one of that varient in the hobby. He may be able to give you insight on I.D and price. The other member keeps his Aimara with Falkneri rays. May be easier to dig up that members post/s by searching for Falkneri since they are one of the very few that posses those rare and elusive rays. Don't know if I'd really trust anyone else when it comes to something so rare. I know wolves are not easy to properly I.D.

Sorry can't help you on this one, no experience on wolves...

the one with rays and aimara together is seichii.
too bad both of them rarely come online.

thanks guys. will check on water wolves as well DB.

understandably one wouldn't be able to tell where a variant was from if those variants exhisted in various locations. But if variants are not deciferable by physical attributes, then it doesn't matter much (to me anyways)... just pricing. but on pricing, i understand there's no real standard.

do you guys agree however that the hoplias shown in that link is in fact an aimara? I'm going purely from the gill plate spot, large eye, and large underbite.

I think the only way to be sure on I.d of wolves is by pics of the bottom of the jaw. If the lines run parallel or curve out. And even then it can still be tricky. I know KRSwop1 was good with ID.by jawlines. Might wanna try pming him too, as I don't think he's been on much lately.

hehe i contacted him last month when first tracked down the possible fish but had no photos until last night. Him Jelly, and XR helped as well... I'm grateful to this community. Didn't run across older posts from Ash and Seichi until later but the other guys answered most of my questions up to that point. Might have to try the oldschool wolf kings over on WW later. Thanks for the heads ups.

The jaw's posted on the other link but again i think the answer is if the seller doesnt know for sure, then a sure answer will prob never surface. most people think it's a VZ the "common aimara" :D. I think so too with exception it doesn't have that tan hue at all, well i haven't seen it tan yet. but then again the tan color is seen when the fish is out of water, in water it's got more of a reddish hue. Im not about to try to yank it out and see.

i wouldve said VZ aimara if you didnt mention brazil...
anyways,im willing to bet that is an aimara in the pic.
