So both my emp 400's are trickling so I think the impellers are finally going bad. So I ordered new ones on amazon since my lfs sells them for $20 and u can buy 2 on amazon for that price. But I wanna buy a new HOB filter as a back up if it fails again. Should also mention I have 2 canister filter on this tank but like having a hob on each of tank.

My choices from my research

Another emp 400
Cascade 300
Aquaclear 70 or 110 ( not sure if I wanna spend what these cost)
Fluval C4 really like the looks and reviews of this one.

What do you think and why?

Ac110 reliability and media

The emperors and the aquaclears are both good filters. Impellers usually only go bad if you get sand in them. Otherwise, they should last for years. I have 30+ year old aquaclears and 10+ year old emperors with the same impellers. You have to clean the filters and impeller assemblies occasionally. LOL!

Cleaned the impellers and still poor water flow.. Ive heard bad things about the ac110 being very loud and how they just stop working. This happened to my friends ac70

No, they are great filters, tons of people on here use them on tanks from 20-110 gallons and have no problems. they are really nicely made reliable filters, I have a AC 70 and I LOVE it, JMO.

AC's are fantastic. I have ten of them running on my five tanks in my fishroom. great filters. I've had emperor 400's and AC's and I sold my emperor's because they cannot match the ease of cleaning, the media or quietness of a 110.

yea i love my emps and they ahve done the job for years but i feel i need to catch up with the times and get some new filters. I like the fluval because its an improvement on the aquaclears as far as media placement for easy of use. My only issue is the price of the ac110 i can get the fluval c4 for $45 deleivered off amazon where i would spend over $60 for the ac110

Ac 110 the best filter for the buck. Powerful and reliable. Very quiet. Don't know who is telling you they are noisy? Never had promblems with mine and have been using them for years.
